We all run around with claimed purpose and mustered up motivation, slave driving ourselves to be the best, to do the most. We create storms of stress, then try to weather them. We shake our own foundations with doubt, then worry over our insecurity. We feel the gusts of life’s wind blow us toward emotional disarray and then question our very existence. All of this while traveling at speeds that would give our ancestors motion sickness. Technology changes, the desire for a sip from the fountain of youth and society’s subliminal messages of the need to achieve perfection bring us to trying even harder, driving even faster. Our voice in our own head says, “keep going, you can’t slip up, failure is on your tail.” Before we know it, the fear of failure is what wakes us in the morning. Failure of not becoming “something”, failure of not being the best we can be. It is this trap that destroys humanity. The message of “better”, the campaign slogan, “I can be better, if I try harder.” This may win votes in sports but in life this will never add up. Life is full of many things but fairness is not one of them. There is only one answer to life’s race track. The ultimate best, a better that is unmatched. His name is Jesus. He is all the good that there ever could be or ever will be. It will never be better than this. Because of Him we no longer have to try, we can be. We can rest, we can stop. We can be calm in or out of the storm. In Him, we have no where else to go.
